Management hunting plays a vital role in maintaining healthy herds, balanced habitats, and sustainable wildlife populations. For exotic species, harvesting animals with broken horns or poor genetics is an essential aspect of responsible management, reducing pressure on available forage and allowing stronger, higher-quality animals to thrive. Broken-horn exotics, often overlooked as trophies, still provide excellent meat and represent a smart, ethical harvest focused on herd health rather than antler size alone. They are usually more cost-effective for hunters compared to trophy animals. Since many exotic species in Texas have no natural predators and reproduce efficiently, selective management hunting is necessary to prevent overpopulation, habitat degradation, and unnecessary animal stress—while also offering a more affordable way to fill the freezer with high-quality wild game.
